Hello HVCS Forensics Families,

This is a longer email with lots of information.  Please read it carefully.

Our spring club is off and running.  The kids are doing a great job of working on their pieces, but the time is short: We only have 5 meetings before the tournament (which is April 19)!  Help your student practice at home, in the car, on the phone (duo and multiple) if possible a little every day.  Students can also arrange to have me listen to them during lunch/recess hour if they'd like.  Our aim is to have pieces memorized by Feb. 29 to present to the club.  We will continue to work on movement (blocking) and polishing during March.

Please help your child to remember to bring the script for their piece to school on Friday.  It is hard to practice without it!

Due to schedule changes Lori Girardot is not able to come Friday afternoons.  I can only hear a few groups each Friday.  This club is a parent facilitated club, so if you can come from 3-4:15 to listen to kids and give them feedback please come.  You don't have to be an expert - we have sheets with suggestions of what to listen for.

Money:  We have to pay the state organization to belong and to register for the tournament.  If you are new to forensics please pay $30.  If you participated in the fall please pay an additional $15.  Checks should be made out to HVCS.

Workshop: There will be a workshop on Saturday, April 5 from 9-noon at the school.  This is an important opportunity for the kids to perform for several adults/coaches and get feedback about their piece.  We need lots of coaches for this to work - parents, older siblings (especially forensics experienced ones), aunts, uncles, friends...  Please save the date.

Showcase: Our Friends and Family showcase will be Thursday, April 17 at 7:30 at the school.  This is where students perform their pieces for all of us as a final practice for the tournament.

Tournament:  Unfortunately I will be unable to attend the this tournament  as my son is getting married that weekend. Several of our parents have gone to WSU before and I trust that I am not that crucial, but it does mean we need folks to step up.  I will provide maps and information packets at the Showcase.  You can also visit the MIFA website (www.themifa.org) although the spring information is not yet up.
The tournament is April 19 starting around 9:15 am at Wayne State University.  The 3rd round ends around 2:45.  The awards assembly goes until around 5:30 pm.  We are required to provide 2-3 judges.  We can either send our own or pay $60 apiece for them.  If you are willing to help in this way please let me know.

Snacks:  The kids signed up to bring snacks on Friday afternoons. Here is what I have for the remaining Fridays - feel free to help out if your child didn't bring something earlier:

2/22 _____________ snacks; Josh Fons, drinks
2/29 Hannah Fenton snacks; Emily Downing drinks
3/14 RoseMary Dahl snacks; Hannah Fenton drinks

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.  Thank you for your patience and support.
